October Worship Department news and updates
There is a new Lutheran Hymnal called All Creation Sings. This hymnal contains 200 new hymns/praise and gospel songs as well as two new settings of Holy Communion. We have already begun to sing some of these new hymns and praise songs. It is exciting to see how our church is striving to be relevant and up to date to meet the needs of people today.
Our Reconciliation Ringers Handbell Choir will travel to Raleigh on Saturday, November 6th to join hundreds of other ringers and work with clinician Karen Buckwalter at the 32nd Capital Area Handbell Festival. Our handbell choir has been busy learning 5 anthems which we will play together with the other ringers at the festival. At the end of the day, the entire massed handbell choir will give a concert for the public. In addition, the Raleigh Ringers will give a concert for the festival attendees! We’re excited for this special learning opportunity and promise to play for you the beautiful music we are learning.
Jane Davis is our new Chancel Choir accompanist. Jane has been involved in church music for a long time and currently teaches 35 piano students weekly. If you want to see Jane in her teaching mode, find her on Facebook. We’re excited to welcome Jane to our music team!
We will use Now the Feast and Celebration Liturgy by Marty Haugen during our fall worship season. This beloved setting of Holy Communion was commissioned by the Campus Ministry Department of Pacific Lutheran University, and written in 1990 by Marty Haugen. Marty writes contemporary hymns and liturgical music for the Lutheran church. For instance, he composed Setting Two for the new Red ELW hymnal as well as the evening prayer setting, Holden Evening Prayer, originally written for Holden Village located in the Northern Cascade Mountains in Washington.
We have ordered the additional Handbell Octave for our Reconciliation Ringers. We are hoping the bells will arrive in late October so we can use them at the Capital Area Handbell Festival. Our SINCEREST THANKS to everyone who donated funds for this new set of handbells!
